Drop-in signing blitz just
in time for gift-giving
On
Tuesday, December 4, I'll be doing drop-in
signings at bookstores all over the Twin Cities, just in time for the
gift-giving season. If you'd like a signed book, just check with your
favorite local
bookstore, and ask them to set aside a signed copy for you to pick up
at your convenience. If you need a book inscribed for someone in
particular, just pre-order the book from your local bookseller, then send me a quick e-mail
with the name of the bookstore, the person's name, and any other
special requests for the inscription. That way, I can sign a book just
for you as I make the rounds on December 4.

HAUNTED
GROUND named among Booklist’s Top Ten Mysteries
The
May 2004 edition of Booklist magazine (the annual mystery issue) named HAUNTED
GROUND as one the Top Ten Crime Novels of 2003-2004, and also
in the Top Ten First Crime Novels of the year. In his introduction to
the list, editor Bill Ott said: "The Top 10 was reserved for those
books that simply demanded to be there. We have two wonderful first
novels—Erin Hart's HAUNTED GROUND, and Adrian McKinty's
Dead I Well May Be—sitting in the winner's circle alongside superb new
work by such established masters as John leCarré and George
Pelecanos. Throw in outstanding installments in relatively new series
by Giles Blunt and Jonathon King, two very different but equally
compelling historical thrillers by Stephen Hunter and David Liss, and
perhaps the best work yet by two veterans, Joe Lansdale and Robert
Greer, and you have a top 10 for the ages."

BOMC
Nominates HAUNTED GROUND as Best Mystery of 2003
Book
of the Month Club selected P.D. James's The Murder Room as the best
mystery of 2003, but HAUNTED GROUND was among the
nominees for that honor. Here's what the Best of 2003 catalog said
about the book: "This was the most auspicious mystery debut of the
year, with a unique feeling for place and a depth of forensic details
that chill. Again, complexity reigns in a genre that rarely offers any
at all." And the other nominees provided good company: Minette Walters'
Fox Evil, Robert Crais' The Last Detective, and Tony Hillerman's The
Sinister Pig.

HAUNTED
GROUND selected by Four National Book Clubs
HAUNTED
GROUND was chosen as an alternate selection by four national
book clubs: Book of the Month Club, the Literary Guild, the Doubelday
Bookclub, and the Mystery Guild. Here's what BOMC editor Victoria
Skurnik said: "Not since P.D. James and Minette Walters have I been so
excited about a mystery author. Erin Hart’s HAUNTED GROUND
is atmospheric, romantic, as rich in contemporary mayhem as it is in
archeological history. Some authors write characters so well they dont
have to bother with plot. Others do plot so well, their people are
cardboard. Yet a third group knows all about forensics, and nothing of
anything else. Erin Hart is the first author Ive read in years who does
it all, and does it all absolutely right. This is stunning in
atmosphere and forensic detail, rich in history, and has characters
whose longings are so palpable you feel them as your own."

HAUNTED GROUND, by Erin Hart (Scribner,
$24, 0-7432-3505-3)
"This mystery set in a modern-day Ireland with ties to the past is one
of the best books I've read in a long time. Filled with folklore, Irish
history, and gothic intrigue, HAUNTED GROUND is a
wonderful blend of classic suspense and modern day forensics."
