December 2007 News DECEMBER 4 DROP-IN SIGNING BLITZ JUST IN TIME FOR GIFT-GIVING On Tuesday, December 4, I'll be doing drop-in signings at bookstores all over the Twin Cities, just in time for the gift-giving season. If you'd like a signed book, just check with your favorite local bookstore, and ask them to set aside a signed copy for you to pick up at your convenience. And if you need a book inscribed for someone in particular, just pre-order the book from your local bookseller, then send me a quick e-mail with the name of the bookstore, the person's name, and any other special requests for the inscription. That way, I can sign a book just for you as I make the rounds on December 4. Sounds simple enough, right? Let's hope it works!

COMPLEAT SCHOLAR COURSE BLEEDING GREEN: THE CONTEMPORARY IRISH CRIME NOVEL I'll be teaching a course through the Compleat Scholar at the University of Minnesota in late winter/early spring. It's a book club course called Bleeding Green: The Contemporary Irish Crime Novel. Over the course of three meetings (February 7, March 6, and April 3) we'll delve into Irish crime fiction, discussing the development and the current state of the genre, and reading six recent titles that span the breadth of the field: In the Woods, by Tana French; Christine Falls, by Benjamin Black; The Midnight Choir, by Gene Kerrigan; The Magdalen Martyrs, by Ken Bruen; and Lake of Sorrows, by yours truly. $125 for three sessions. >> COURSE DESCRIPTION AND DETAILS
DOES YOUR BOOK CLUB LIKE TO CHAT WITH AUTHORS? I've
been visiting with lots of book clubs in conjunction with the new trade
paperback/book club edition of LAKE OF SORROWS (see Upcoming
Appearances at left). Reading
and talking about books has always been one
of my favorite pastimes, and it occurred to me that one of the best
ways I can connect directly with readers is to join in your book club
discussions, in person if you're within driving distance, or via
speaker phone. So
I'm
extending a hand to book
clubs
everywhere. Send me an invitation to the meeting where you'll be
discussing LAKE OF SORROWS, and I’ll be
delighted to join you. >>
MORE ABOUT BOOK CLUB VISITS
AND FOR
THOSE WHO CAN'T GET ENOUGH JIGS & REELS... Some of you may know that
my husband,
Paddy O'Brien, plays Irish traditional music — jigs, reels hornpipes,
and airs, just
like the music featured in all my stories. Paddy and his band, Chulrua,
have just
released a new CD called THE SINGING KETTLE, on
the
Shanachie Records label. It's available at various shops and online
retailers,
and directly from the band at the Chulrua website. And check
out this (very) short video from the Chulrua concert at Matt Molloy's Bar in Westport, County Mayo on
August 22, 2007, part of the band's "Singing Kettle" tour of Ireland.
